All about the Class 221 - CrossCountry ride Newcastle - Alnmouth!

The Class 221 has been in service since 2002, entering service with Virgin Trains West Coast, and CrossCountry (then owned by Virgin Trains). In 2019, Virgin Trains ended operations on the West Coast Main Line with Avanti West Coast taking over there Class 390 and Class 221 trains. When Avanti West Coast took over, some of the Class 221 trains kept their Virgin Trains interiors, whilst some of the fleet had the Avanti West Coast style interiors. In 2025, all the Avanti West Coast Class 221s are now goen, with some of the old Avanti ones being used by CrossCountry. This means CrossCountry's fleet of Class 221s interiors all have old interiors of Virgin Trains and Avanti West Coast - travelling with them is like travelling on the West Coast Main Line through time. In this video, I took a journey on a CrossCountry Class 221 from Newcastle to Alnmouth along the East Coast Main Line in standard class!
