📄 Sometimes exciting places are right on your doorstep – you just have to discover them. In this installment of my series "Discoveries in the Rhein-Lahn District," a bike tour first takes me to the Celtic burial mounds near Welterod. Hidden deep in the forest, these ancient burial mounds still remind us of a time when people lived here, whose traces we can only now vaguely discern. After searching for the sometimes barely recognizable burial mounds, the tour continues through the open landscape of the Taunus Mountains to Strüth and Schönau Monastery. The monastery complex, with its church, historic buildings, and tranquil parkland, invites you to pause for a moment and soak up the special atmosphere of this place. As is often the case on my tours, not everything went quite according to plan this time either – dead drone batteries and a suddenly broken bike stand provided a few surprises along the way. Nevertheless, it turned out to be a tour full of interesting impressions and exciting discoveries. The series "Discoveries in the Rhein-Lahn District" appears irregularly and showcases places in the region that are easily overlooked – hidden gems, tranquil spots, and landscapes steeped in history.
