The Gingerbread Boy is an ancient story that has origins several thousands of years ago. Runaway food is a common theme in folklore, representing an important theme about how our forebears looked at a precious harvest, and particularly at the last of the crop. As a child I enjoyed the pace of the story, the various animals joining with the little old woman and the little old man to chase after the runaway gingerbread boy.
