White Pass and Yukon Route Part 1: Fraser to Carcross

Here we see the White Pass and Yukon Route Railway's Bennett Scenic Journey and an extra MoW train. This train is the furthest running train that the White Pass and Yukon operates, running 67.5 miles from Skagway, AK to Carcross, YT with stops in Fraser, BC for going through Canadian Customs and a scenic stop at Bennett, BC. From Carcross, the line has been inactive since the 1980s to Whitehorse. This train consisted of two 1950s GE Shovelnoses and 8 passenger cars (6 of them were newer, built in around 2001-2010) The White Pass and Yukon was built in the 1890s to supply and transport miners and equipment going to the Klondike goldfields. The railroad quickly expanded to Whitehorse where it connected with a fleet of mostly White Pass owned riverboats. By World War II, the White Pass was the only remaining railroad in the Yukon and was temporarily taken over by the US Army to help supply equipment to build the Alaska Highway. After the war, the railroad was handed back to private ownership. In the mid 1950s, the first diesels arrived on the line and by the 1970s, the line had been fully dieselized. In 1982, both freight and tourist service shut down completely. Thankfully, in 1988, tourist service restarted and has been running seasonally since then other than the 2020-2022 seasons.
