Catching Bonefish in Hilo, Hawaii

Out of all the islands the Hawaii or the Big Island is the toughest island to land bonefish. The flats are super small and the window of opportunity even smaller. The tides, the weather, and the crowd have to be right in order to sight fish for bonefish. We have made it our mission to promote fly fishing in Hawaii. As you travel around the world to fish for the elusive bonefish, keep in mind Hawaii has some of the biggest. We hope our videos will motivate you to pack your rod, or hire one of our expert guides to land one of these elusive bonefish. We were in Hilo, Hawaii today and the weather and tides were favorable. So armed with the Ghetto Super Fly and a 8wt rod we set off on a quick mission that turned out pretty good. Of the 4 bonefish we hooked, we landed one. We also landed a barred jack and a blue finned trevally. Each bonefish that we casted at was withing 12 feet of the tip of the rod. It was a wild morning timming the waves to ensure the fly would get to the bottom and have a couple seconds on the bottom before the next wave rolled in. Razor sharp barnicles made fighting these fish a little challenging. None the less we mananged to bring one in before the tide got too high.
