They pray for it. They sing about it. They long to experience it. Yet throughout Scripture, genuine revival almost always begins in the same place: --- With a renewed encounter with God's Word. Nehemiah 8 records one of the greatest spiritual awakenings in Israel's history. The wall had been rebuilt. The city had been secured. The people had returned. But Nehemiah understood something vital: Physical restoration without spiritual renewal is incomplete. So the people gathered together as one man in the open square. They requested that Ezra bring the Book of the Law and read it publicly. For hours they listened attentively. The Levites explained the Scriptures. The people understood God's Word. Conviction filled their hearts. Tears began to flow. As they compared their lives with God's truth, they recognised how far they had fallen short. Yet this gathering did not end in despair. Instead, it became a celebration. Why? Because God's purpose in revealing truth is not merely to expose sin but to restore sinners. This chapter points powerfully to Jesus Christ. According to John 1:1, Jesus is the living Word. The written Word leads us to the Living Word.
