Hamme is a district of Bochum with 15,900 inhabitants, north-west of the city centre. The station is partly on a bridge over the B226, and has been served by the trains of today's RB46 since 1979. The track belonging to the platform is part of the Bochum Hbf - Herne-Rottbruch - Gelsenkirchen-Bismarck - Essen Hbf railway line, which no longer exists in this form today. The platform is located on the site of the former second track. The two platform-less tracks were originally only part of a connecting route between Bochum-Nord and Bochum-Riemke, but are now much more frequented as part of a connection from Oberhausen-Osterfeld to Bochum-Langendreer & Hagen-Vorhalle, than the track leading to the main station. Many regional freight trains are also on the move here, such as the ''President Pendulum'' running several times a day between Oberhausen-West and Bochum-Präsident.
