Cataloochee - Pretty Hollow, Mt Sterling, Long Bunk, Little Cataloochee, Balsam Mtn, Palmer Creek

This two day, overnight hike was in the Cataloochee area of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Day 1 totaled 21 miles and included Pretty Hollow Gap, Mt. Sterling Ridge (East), Mount Sterling Trail, Long Bunk, and Little Cataloochee before heading back to Pretty Hollow campsite #39. Day 2 totaled 18 miles and included Pretty Hollow Gap, Mt Sterling Ridge (West), Balsam Mountain, and Palmer Creek before returning to the campsite to collect my tent. These miles also included the two miles back to the trailhead. This area has been hit hard by storms and is able to be hiked but there are several trees down blocking the trails. Campsite #39 Pretty Hollow is a decent site with a slope. There are about 3-4 possible areas to set up a tent but realistically only 2 that are practical.
