How often has HR professional Lianna Müller, 28, heard this sentence from other mothers? How often has she been annoyed by the sentence and the pitying look that accompanied it. Twenty-five years ago, her mother returned to her home country, Malaysia. Lianna and her older brother stayed with their father in the Bernese Oberland. Her father, Walter Müller, 59, was able to give her the love and stability she needed. "Raising children isn't gender-dependent, but rather determined by the love shown in return – and this can be just as intense from fathers as it is from mothers." Seven years ago, Maura Stocker, 39, left her husband. The children were eight, six, and two years old. Because she didn't want to tear them away from their environment, school, and family home, she moved out without them. Since moving out, she has lost the social label of "good mother." This despite never breaking off contact with her children. The relationship remained close. And they continued to stand together as parents. Felizitas Ambauen, psychotherapist and couples therapist, explains the reasons why a woman decides to leave. It's never an easy decision. On the contrary – doubts have been a long-standing companion. Nevertheless, she believes it's important to take a closer look and not jump to conclusions.
