The weather forecast was good, but unfortunately it was foggy... However, I managed to hang on at the summit and managed to catch glimpses of the Gendarme area! [Hiking Trail] ・Trailhead to Nishiho Sanso The forest is very easy to walk through. The climb is gentle. ・Nishiho Sanso to Nishiho Maruyama This trail up to Nishiho Maruyama is recommended for beginners. From here, the difficulty level increases dramatically to Dokubetsu. ・Nishiho Maruyama to Nishiho Dokubetsu From Maruyama, the walk is scree-heavy for a while. Watch out for loose rocks. Just below Dokubetsu, the trail becomes rocky. Wearing a helmet is recommended. ・Nishiho Dokubetsu to Pyramid Peak to Champion Peak to Nishihotakadake There have been many accidents on the descent just below Dokubetsu, so be careful. There are many sheer rock faces throughout the trail, but I found there to be more regular scree slopes than I expected, especially in the middle area. I felt particularly tense near the Dokubetsu and just below the summit. [Shinhotaka Ropeway] The ropeway generally operates from 8:00 AM, but on certain days there are special early morning trips, starting at 7:00 AM. Ropeway tickets can be purchased online in advance. Reserved seats are also available for all trips, except for the early morning trips. [Parking] I parked in the Nabehira climbers' parking lot. Advance reservations are required.
