My Water Main Made No Sense – So I Moved It to the Utility Room
The incoming water main on my 1960s house made absolutely no sense — it ran under the living room and kitchen and popped up in the most awkward place possible. So in today’s episode, I’m replacing that old 15mm copper pipe, rerouting the main outside, and bringing a brand new 20mm MDPE supply straight into the new utility room where it always should have been. In this video I’ll cover: • Exposing the existing incoming pipe • Digging out the trench • Fitting the new MDPE and insulation • Drilling through the wall into the utility • Installing the new internal stopcock • Connecting the kitchen cold feed properly If you’re renovating an older home, planning a utility room layout, or dealing with badly-planned plumbing from decades ago, this should give you a good idea of how to move and replace an incoming water main safely and logically. A quick hello as well to everyone who joined the channel after the OpenReach video — it’s been brilliant seeing so many of you dive into the renovation series, and I’ve learnt a ridiculous amount from the comments.
