Why a Wet Floor Isn’t a Mistake With Underfloor Heating

In this episode, I finish laying the sand over the underfloor heating pipes, leave it to dry out, and then start installing the plywood floor over the top. This is the point where things can go wrong if you rush it — so I take my time, make sure the sand has dried enough, double-check that all the steel protection plates are correctly positioned over the joists, and fix the plywood down carefully without drilling into the pipes below. The floor is wet at first because the sand needs moisture to be compacted properly, but once it’s had time to dry, it’s ready to be sealed up.
