We've found that it's a great idea to service your winch every year or two to ensure the housing and components are free from water damage and corrosion, well-greased and maintained. Contrary to seemingly popular belief, winches are not a fit and forget item, but something that should be periodically checked over to ensure full working order, especially for something that could save your bacon one day. Not to mention something that sits at the front of your vehicle, getting soaked in river crossings, splattered with mud and sand, and for many people, left out in the sun - your winch sure does put up with a lot if you think about it, it really deserves a bit of love now and then.
