General Academic Session at the Eastern Civil Hospital. “Overview of Allergic Diseases and Their Current Impact” With Dr. Rodrigo González Figueroa. The meeting focused on the impact of allergic diseases and their epidemiology. Vic and the Hospital discussed the definition of allergy, the importance of genetic predisposition, and environmental factors in its development. Theories such as the hygiene hypothesis and how early exposure to certain stimuli can influence the onset of allergies were addressed. The most prevalent allergic diseases, such as allergic rhinitis, asthma, and atopic dermatitis, were mentioned, as well as their relationship to quality of life. The pathophysiology was explained, including Th1 and Th2 profiles, and the importance of early diagnosis and appropriate treatment, especially immunotherapy, was emphasized. Topics related to anaphylaxis and its management were also addressed, as well as prevention measures and environmental control to reduce allergic symptoms. Finally, the role of breastfeeding and the early introduction of allergenic foods in prevention was highlighted.
