Pokémon Legends: Z-A - Any% Glitchless Speedrun in 6:36:40
LOTS of route changes since my last PB. I actually had PBed the day before this in a massive 9 person race, but it was an incredibly unsatisfying run with how bad my battle zones had gone. This one had much better (though still not perfect) luck in the battle zones This run has some big RNG sections during the Battle Zones, where the cards and opponents you find really dictate how much time you spend doing them. The later ones (Rank F to A) are the most important. I had a few of the later ones give me some excellent cards that I ended up failing to fully capitalize on. My B rank zone was pretty bad as well. This is also not to minimize the first few zones as well, which all went fairly well. 1:45 is the mark of a really good Vinnie time, so my 1:46:08 is pretty dang good Since my 7:11 ( • Pokémon Legends: Z-A - Any% Glitchless Spe... ), we have had a TON of route improvements: Minor change that makes the early game a bit better is the inclusion of 2 static Exp Candy S for Totodile. These are available right after the catch tutorial section, meaning we can have a Level 14/15 Totodile for the first Battle Zone, Zach, and the Josee fight before WZ3. It's a bit of a detour, but it overall saves 30+ seconds We're still rocking the Bois train (I don't see that ever changing tbh). In my previous run, I mentioned that we now use Bois for the Rogue Hawlucha and Dragonite, while Altaria still needs a buddy (Beedrill) to take it on. That has been changed and now Bois is capable of taking on all (non-ghost) Rogues So how do we take on Altaria? Well, there were two main improvements made with regards to the Rogues. I'll spell them out in the next two bullets Screech. I mentioned last time that we were throwing Leer into the Rogue rotations which proved successful. The issue is that Leer only lasts for ~12s, which means you need to keep re-upping it. Well, it turns out Screech lasts for 30s... and it stacks the effect time rather than replacing it (i.e. Screeching a second time after 10s makes the total Screech last for 60s rather than 40s). Since we're barely dealing any damage anyway pre-mega, we're able to build our mega-meter with Totodile or Spinarak screeching, and then switch to Bois when the time is right Forest's Curse. Yes, that move that only the Phantump line learns. This move will add (not replace, add) the Grass type to the enemy and unlike effects such as Leer or Swords Dance, the effect is permanent. On some Rogues (and one fight outside of the Rogue section), we lead a Phantump to cast Forest's Curse, and then switch in either Totodile or Bois to put in some work. With this, we're able to take resistances to Bug/Flying and make them neutral, or take a neutral effectiveness and make it 2x. This helps a lot on some Rogues like Hawlucha, Altaria, and Dragonite For the final Rogue Rush section, we've been using Perish Song, but it turns out we can also use Curse on some of the smaller fights to speed them up as well. Perish Song is still there for some fights and as a backup, but since Phantump can also learn Curse (and there's a free Gastly/Gengar in the main story), we can utilize that on some fights. This is still fairly new and is sure to be refined over time I'm a bit late posting this time (I was about 4min off record when I set it, but now record is 10min faster than my time lol) but we're starting to get to the territory of very good runs with what we know. It still comes down to Battle Zones, but even outside of them I have room to improve (Dragonite and then ending section). I think a 6:2x for me is reasonable; it just requires the reps --- Join the Switch PSR Discord if you want to get into speedrunning the Switch Pokémon games: / discord --- I stream live on Twitch!
