Pema Chodron - Relaxe na Incerteza

Quotes and excerpts from the book "When Things Fall Apart" by Pema Chödrön. Pema Chödrön, born Deirdre Blomfield-Brown in 1936, is a Buddhist nun, author, and spiritual teacher in the Vajrayana Tibetan tradition. Before entering monastic life, she worked as a teacher and lived an ordinary life in the United States. After a period of personal suffering and profound inner transformation, she encountered Buddhism and became a disciple of Chögyam Trungpa. Later, she was one of the first Western women ordained as a nun in the Vajrayana tradition, dedicating her life to the study, practice, and teaching of the Dharma. Her teachings emphasize compassion, emotional courage, and acceptance of impermanence. Pema teaches that suffering can become a path to awakening when faced with presence and openness. In books such as "When Things Fall Apart" and "The Places That Scare Us," she addresses themes such as fear, Attachment, anxiety, and self-compassion, encouraging practitioners to abandon resistance and cultivate an awakened mind in daily life. Pema Chödrön has become one of the most influential voices in contemporary Buddhism in the West. Her simple, human, and accessible language has brought thousands of people closer to meditation and Buddhist practice, especially during times of crisis and personal transformation. 🙏 Purchase Tibetan Buddhism books through our Amazon link: https://amzn.to/4h3ZImu List of books by Chögyam Trungpa: https://amzn.to/4gFFQqn 📚 Check out our list of recommendations: https://www.amazon.com.br/shop/corvoseco “It is not the things that happen to us in our lives that make us suffer, it is how we relate to the things that happen to us that make us suffer.” Pema Chödrön. “There is a traditional Tibetan story called ‘The Frog in the Well.’ One day, a frog who had spent his whole life in a well was visited by a frog who lived near the ocean. When the frog from the well asked about the size of the ocean, the visitor said, ‘It’s gigantic.’ ‘Do you mean about a quarter the size of my well?’ asked the frog from the well. ‘Much bigger,’ was the reply. ‘Impossible! I don’t believe you!’ said the frog from the well. So they set off together to see; and when the frog from the well saw the vastness of the ocean, the shock was so great that his mind could not comprehend it, and he died right then and there. We are like that frog, limited by our bubble of imputed meanings. But the world is astonishingly full of potential for ever greater openness. When we learn to keep the rawness of vulnerability in our hearts, we will be able to experience our minds and hearts as being as vast as the universe.” Pema Chödrön. “There is a Tibetan word that points to the root cause of aggression and desire: shenpa. I think of shenpa as ‘being hooked.’ It’s that feeling of being immobilized, that tightness we experience when we become uncomfortable with what’s happening. Someone says a harsh word, and you become tense: instantly, we are hooked. The tension soon manifests itself in blaming the person, or belittling ourselves. Shenpa is the urge to scratch when we have a skin irritation; as we want to relieve the discomfort, we start scratching, which seems like a perfectly reasonable reaction, but we don’t know that by scratching, the poison will spread. Thus, shenpa impels us to smoke a cigarette, to overeat, to say something mean, or to tell a lie. It is the ‘impulse’ behind our thoughts, words, and actions.” If we catch the shenpa as soon as it appears, when it's still a slight tension or a slight recoil, it's still a perfectly manageable reaction. We feel a physical sensation that is never new; it always has a familiar taste and a familiar smell. We perceive the underlying insecurity that is inherent in a changing world. The challenge is to perceive that emotional pull of shenpa as soon as it arises, and to stay with it for a minute and a half without developing a plot.” Pema Chödrön.
