N&W 1218 Uncut: Five Miles, One Take

South of Culpeper, Virginia, there's a five-mile straightaway on the old Southern RR main with a road right alongside it. Oren and I paced N&W 1218 along that road in 1991, shooting one long continuous video the whole time. I incorporated parts of it into my video N&W 1218 ALEXANDRIA TO LYNCHBURG, but this is the whole 5-minute 45-second take, uncut. As you'll see on the video, we were alongside for only a short while. Other cars soon passed us and squeezed us back to a trailing position. There's too much overgrowth, my rearview mirror gets into the shot too much, the sound is so-so, but man, what a ride it was!
