Un viaje en tren por Irán | DW Documental

After decades of restrictions on tourists, Iran is beginning to open up, offering a train journey to discover the country and its people. The Trans-Iranian Railway, the most important rail connection in ancient Persia, covers 1,400 kilometers from the Persian Gulf, through Tehran, to the Caspian Sea. The journey begins in Khorramshahr on the Shatt al-Arab, the river that forms the border between Iraq and Iran. Passing by oil fields, the train reaches Shushtar. There, passengers can visit the watermills, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Then the ascent begins through the Zagros Mountains. A pause for prayer delays the train. From the train window, breathtaking landscapes unfold. Between Dorud and Arak, the highest point of the railway network is reached, at an altitude of over 2,200 meters. During a brief stop in Qom, travelers can replenish their energy with sohan, sweets made with flour, wheat grains, and sugar. The high-speed rail line takes you to Tehran at 160 kilometers per hour. More than 15 million people live in the capital's metropolitan area. The final leg of the journey leads to the north of the country. In the Alborz Mountains, you can learn about the role the Trans-Iranian Railway played during World War II, in Stalin's major offensive against the German army. In Bandar Torkaman, on the Caspian Sea, the eastern rail adventure comes to an end, having immersed travelers in the heart of a remarkably hospitable people who hold onto the hope of one day enjoying greater freedom. ------------------------------------------------------------ Fascinating, surprising, and informative.
