But there's a lot of fantastic hardware you can find in thrift stores and enjoy today. I've found that with a little patience, you can find true high fidelity speakers from the best brands, and though they may need some TLC, I think the results are worth it. This is a decent guide, but I'd like to ad that removing the dust cap and shimming the voice coil isn't strictly necessary. If the driver's spider is intact, the dust cap should remain perfectly centered. It is easy to get replacement dust caps, but if your speakers have decorative or interesting driver designs (like the translucent cones in the Infinity RS-2000) you might want to try leaving the dust cap as it is.
