Overnight Backpacking Trip to Heart Lake
This is a very short (~3-mile RT) overnight backpacking trip to Heart Lake in the Castle Crags Wilderness. You don't need a wilderness permit for Castle Crags Wilderness, but you do need a California Campfire Permit (free), even for a gas stove. Heart Lake is a popular destination for day hikers, but if you plan to spend the night, head out around noon. By late afternoon, after everyone leaves, you'll have the lake to yourself.
