Marques,NOVA School of Science and Technology, Portugal Title: Expanding the Reactivity Landscape of Hypervalent Iodine Reagents Abstracts: Cyclic hypervalent iodine reagents have emerged as powerful tools in modern organic synthesis, offering a unique combination of stability, tunable reactivity, and sustainable reaction conditions. These features have enabled previously inaccessible disconnections, enhancing synthetic efficiency and broadening the landscape of functional group interconversion [1]. We have developed a new generation of benziodoxolone-derived reagents, unlocking unprecedented reactivity in key bond-forming transformations. Our group has developed new transfer reactions for the selective sulfonylation of amines, anilines, and hydrazines by merging hypervalent iodine chemistry with sulfinate salts [2,3]. These methods offer a sustainable route to valuable sulfonyl-containing motifs. In parallel, we have designed novel hypervalent iodine-based reagents capable of delivering primary amines (BBX) to β-keto esters via an oxidative amination process, providing a streamlined access to α-amino carbonyl compounds [4]. Recently, we have disclosed the synthesis of secondary amines using BBX in combination with aryl and alkylzinc reagents.[4] These methodologies have been successfully applied to the synthesis of pharmacologically relevant scaffolds, showcasing the versatility of hypervalent iodine in late-stage functionalization and medicinal chemistry. BIOGRAPHY: Maria Manuel Marques is Associate Professor with Habilitation at the Chemistry Department of the Nova School of Science and Technology - Universidade Nova de Lisboa (NOVA FCT), and leader of the research group MMMarquesLab – Organic Synthesis and Chemical Biology at NOVA FCT. She obtained Ph.D. in organic chemistry in 2001 at NOVA, and completed postdoctoral research at the University of Vienna under Prof. J. Mulzer. Since returning to Portugal in 2003, she has combined teaching and research at NOVA FCT.
