First installment of great records on the legendary EMI/HMV/COLUMBIA labels, featuring recordings from the late 1950s to the end of the analogue era in the late 1970s. A companion to my earlier video featuring the Decca label: • GEMS from the DECCA catalogue #1 EMI was the second behemoth classical label out of the UK, along with DECCA. The sound on their records is a little different from the Decca sound - a more mid-hall perspective - but the catalogue is packed full of wonderful performances and many acknowledged audiophile classics. I feature a range of favorites, both original pressings and reissues. For an excellent introduction to the differences between labels/pressings etc., I highly recommend Michael's video "A Guide to Collecting Classical Music on Vinyl" (#poetryonplastic).
