Як у Херсоні намагаються зупинити пожежі після атак російських дронів

In Kherson, municipal workers have begun creating firebreaks in the city's green areas. Due to the heat, dry vegetation instantly catches fire after Russian shelling and drone attacks, and extinguishing such fires is often deadly - rescuers regularly become targets of repeated attacks. In a park in the Central District of Kherson, employees of the Kherson Parks Commune are plowing the area, creating firebreaks. According to the plan of the municipal workers, they should contain the spread of fire and help preserve trees and greenery. According to Volodymyr Tsyktor, director of the Kherson Parks Commune, this is the first such experience. The community has repeatedly had to mow large areas of deadwood, and now they have decided to additionally use equipment to protect green areas. In total, the work covers dozens of hectares. They have to work under the constant threat of Russian attacks. During the work, an enemy drone flew over the territory. Soon, it attacked nearby, which immediately caused a major fire. Due to the danger, the workers were forced to temporarily hide under the trees until the situation became safer. “We are waiting now, because the drone is flying. Wherever we can hide, we hide,” the tractor driver explained briefly. After filming in the park, we visited the area that was burned down the day before by a Russian drone. Due to the heat and dry grass, the flames spread there in a matter of minutes. Rescuers arrived at the scene, but they were unable to save the area from the fire. Such fires occur in Kherson and its surroundings almost every day. Their elimination remains extremely dangerous, as the Russian military often repeatedly attacks firefighters with drones or fires at them. “It’s very sad to return home and see a scorched desert. Sooner or later, people will start coming back, and I want them to see a park instead of a fire,” says Olga Chupikova, head of the green sector of the Kherson Parks Communal Enterprise. That’s why utility workers continue to work even in dangerous conditions, trying to preserve the city’s green spaces and prevent fire from destroying what was restored despite the war.
