Replacing Greenhouse Plastic on Our Huge 148’ Greenhouse

Replacing greenhouse plastic on our 148’ greenhouse after 7 years of wear, hail damage, and reduced light affecting our tomato crop. The old poly was hit by two major hail storms, leaving it full of holes, unable to hold air, and reducing light transmission enough to start affecting our tomato crop. This greenhouse plastic replacement turned into a big job. I started prepping the night before by removing many of the fasteners, leaving just enough to keep the plastic from blowing off in the wind. The next morning was completely calm, so I removed the final attachments and pulled off both sheets by myself. Once Emma arrived, we rolled out the new greenhouse poly, tied ropes to it, and pulled it over the hoops — just the two of us. Normally this is a 3–4 person job, so this was a long and physically demanding day. After getting the plastic on, we installed the poly lock channel and wiggle wire along both sides and the end walls, secured the rollup sides with aluminum lath strips, trimmed the excess plastic, and finished by installing the blower to inflate the double layer greenhouse plastic. This entire greenhouse plastic install took about 6–7 hours, but it’s a huge improvement.
