At this milestone, please listen to the voice of a man who once served as a member of the Army Special Attack Unit (Shinbu Unit), who saw many of his comrades off on their final missions. Mr. Toriya, who served in the Shinbu Unit, survived the war and devoted his life to passing down the memories of those who never returned. To the comrades who remained only in photographs, he said, “Let’s meet in dreams.” These words are both a prayer for those who perished and a quiet message to us living today. Now, 80 years after the end of the war, let us reflect on the true meaning of peace through the voices of those who witnessed the war firsthand.
