Chicago - Make Me Smile (Studio Version) guitar cover
Make Me Smile by Chicago…from the album “Chicago” (aka Chicago II). More accurately this is Make Me Smile / Now More Than Ever, the first and last parts bookending the seven-part Ballet for a Girl in Buchannon by James Pankow. Guitarist / vocalist Terry Kath proves here you don’t always need fuzz or overdrive or distortion to play heavy rhythm guitar. Clean tone on something like a Deluxe Reverb amp with a little compression and reverb on the back end, dial the volume down a bit on the Strat, neck pickup, and whack those strings HARD! For the solo, same amp with a Fuzzface and a clean boost up front with the volume on the Strat rolled way back and the tone rolled back a little. Vocal, keyboard, drum, bass, and horn backing tracks made using software. Edited and mixed to the best of my ear and ability to stay as true to the original as possible, hoping to demonstrate how it all fits together. Played through Amplitube 5 by IK Multimedia. Interfaced to Macbook Pro via an AXE I/O ONE, and recorded using Garage Band. Video recorded on iPhone 13 Pro. Ballet for a Girl in Buchannon begins as the second track on Side 2 of the album “Chicago” (aka Chicago II) from 1970. If you've never bought this album, I highly recommend you do so. In particular I highly recommend the Steven Wilson Remix from 2017. Using the original multitrack and the original notes he cleaned everything up and basically reassembled the entire album. It’s as though a blanket has been taken off the speakers! #chicago #chicago2 #chicagoii #makemesmile #make_me_smile #nowmorethanever #now_more_than_ever #balletforagirlinbuchannon #terrykath #terry_kath #jamespankow #james_pankow #fenderamps #deluxereverb #classicrock #guitarcover #guitarcovers #amplitube #amplitube5 #ikmultimedia #guitarlesson #guitarlessons #guitarplaythrough #guitarcoversong #guitarcoversongs #coversong #coversongs #guitardemo #zexcoil #zexcoilpickups #stringjoy Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the **Copyright Act 1976**, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research.
