Reading The Water! #tenkara
FULL DISCLOSURE This video isn't meant to compete with 30+ year guides on the river. This is just simply how I read the river and as you can see, I am catching fish. The only difference most anglers should expect on a creek vs this video is clear water. Clear water on a sunny day= easy to spook fish. Approach them slower and with caution. If they are running when your fly hits the water, you should consider using a smaller fly. Two additional tips NOT mentioned in this video: 1. Waders are very helpful. I am often in the middle of the creek more than I am on the banks. In the summer, wet wading (getting your feet wet with boots) can be a cheaper alternative to buying waders but the water will be COLD. Be sure to not wet wade in water sheds (typically the public drinking water to major cities- THESE WILL BE POSTED). 2. Wear sunglasses. Preferably polarized. You will be able to see 6-12" deeper into the water often giving you the chance to see trout from behind before you get up to their spots. 3. Trout almost always swim against a moving currant. Approach them from behind and move against the river. Some eddies have a "whirlpool" affect giving the trout the sensation the current is flowing backwards. Those are rare but you may see trout facing you in these occasions. Gear used: The rod used in this video is the @DRAGONtailTenkara Kaida. This is a great rod for light or weightless flies. The waders I am wearing are from @Paramount Outdoors. The deep eddies are a premium wader option found on Amazon competing with some high end companies. Their half waders are perfect for tenkara as well. Wading boots in this video are Cabelas brand wading boots. The hip pack and chest pack are from @tenkararodco every day mini pack and hip pack. The backpack is Bass Pro Shop branded The net is a company called Measure Net. You can find this on Amazon or Cabelas/Bass Pro. ————————————————————— 💰 Channel Support 💰 Would you like to support the channel? -Email [email protected] for product donations, demos, and reviews!
