Clowne is a town in North East Derbyshire with a rich history of coal mining - and with that former railways. At one time, this small town had two railway stations serving local and national destinations as well as the railway infrastructure for the surrounding collieries of Southgate, Barlborough and Oxcroft (to name a few). We start our explore on the former Midland Railway Clowne Branch (later LMS), which is now the Clowne Greeenway. An impressive open path for cyclists, walkers and horse riders. Before we enter Clowne from the East, we are joined on our left hand side by nother old line - the LD&ECR (Lancashire Derbyshire & East Coast Railway). Upon arriving in Clowne, we can stumble across either of the two disused railway stations, which are still clear to see in some capacity. On the LDECR we have the Clowne South station. Just a few yards down Station Road we have the Clowne & Barlborough Station on the Midland line. Just another few yards down Station Road is the entrance to the forrmer Southgate Colliery. A wonderful display of old mining wagons are left as a memorial to the past industry. From here we try and trace the route of the LD&ECR, which has now been extensively developed on with housing and commercial properties. Where the LD&ECR crosses the Midland near Barlborough Colliery, we head back up the Clowne Greenway Midland Branch, back in to Clowne. 00:00 Intro & Clowne Greenway 01:23 LD&ECR 03:10 Clowne South disused station (LDECR) 05:28 Clowne & Barlborough disused station (Midland) 08:25 Southgate Colliery memorial 08:57 Former LD&ECR route 11:03 LDECR crosses Midland line & Clowne Greenway 14:39 Culvert **Wobbly Runner** Please give the video a like and hit subscribe. My channel was set up in 2020 mainly to feature my running adventures. I planned to film and showcase the days out and destinations my running travels took me. Mainly the Peak District and the sights and marvels of Sheffield and the surrounding regions. However due to Covid restrictions, I found a new interest in researching and exploring old abandoned places - railway lines, canal, woodland, parks to name a few. So the videos you'll find will be mainly be of those things. Of course, where possible I'll be running to my destination. Facebook Page - / wobbly.runner Instagram - / wobbly.runner
