Surya Namaskar for Working People | A 15-Minute Morning Practice for Natural Energy
You don’t need to master hundreds of yoga postures to transform your health. Sometimes, one ancient practice done consistently is enough to change the way your body feels, the way your mind responds, and the way you experience your entire day. There is something beautiful about beginning the day before the world becomes noisy. Before the notifications, the meetings, the deadlines, the endless cups of tea or coffee, and the constant rush to keep going. Many of us look outside ourselves for energy. We hope the next cup of coffee, another cigarette, or simply pushing harder will help us get through the day. But yoga reminds us that the energy we are searching for already exists within us. Sometimes, it simply needs to be awakened. Surya Namaskar is one of the oldest and most complete yogic practices for doing exactly that. It is far more than a sequence of postures. It is a conversation between your breath, your body, and your mind. With regular practice, it can leave you feeling naturally energized, improve flexibility and digestion, support your nervous system, strengthen the body, and help you begin each day with greater presence and clarity. In this practice, we’ll move through the traditional sequence of Surya Namaskar: • Namaskarasana • Hasta Uttanasana • Padahastasana • Ashwa Sanchalanasana • Parvatasana (Adho Mukha Svanasana) • Phalakasana • Ashtangasana • Bhujangasana • Parvatasana • Ashwa Sanchalanasana • Padahastasana • Hasta Uttanasana • Namaskarasana If possible, practice on an empty stomach, ideally in the morning after clearing your bowels, and allow your breath to guide every movement.
