100 Ringers, 100 Changes, 100 Minutes (Bakewell 2011)

As featured in The Ringing World, Issue 5245, 4 November 2011! To celebrate 100 years of the Ringing World (the weekly bellringers' magazine/newspaper) events re being held across the country. The Derby Diocesan Association did what we believe is a World Record: the most ringers ringing in one single piece of ringing. There were 100 ringers in the Call Changes, of which the conductor (who remained on the tenor the whole time) had worked out a 100 changes touch, which lasted 100 minutes. It was rung at Bakewell, on some splendid bells, with ringers swapping over through one of the Stewards. Some people rang for 4 minutes (including me, who started it all off on the treble at exactly 2.30pm), some for 8, and some for 12 before swapping with someone else. The tower is a little odd though, as it is octagonal rather than square. Apologies for the people walking past; it was unavoidable as I didn't want to interrupt the attempt by restricting an area for the camera. The Derby DA President, Rev. Clive Thrower, kept walking in front of it a lot though, so apologies for the not-so-pleasant view on occasion! lol An excellent day was had by all, and I have a second video to upload from this day as well: 100 changes of Original Minor on handbells, specially composed for the day. But you'll have to wait for that one! Hehehe...
