Palácio do Barão de Itatiba

We visited the Palácio dos Azulejos, a historic building located in downtown Campinas, at the intersection of Ferreira Penteado and Regente Feijó streets. Its name comes from the Portuguese tile covering on the upper floor. It was built in 1878 as a residence for Joaquim Ferreira Penteado, Baron of Itatiba.[1] In 1908, the building was sold[2] by the baron's successors to the municipality, which transformed it into the Courthouse and the headquarters of the Campinas City Hall: the latter function it served until 1968, when the Palácio dos Jequitibás was completed. Today, it houses the Campinas Museum of Image and Sound.
