3 days and 2 nights with me, my mom, and my sister on our first-ever trip to Yala and it completely changed the way I used to think about this province! We traveled by 2nd-class sleeper train, a full 16-hour ride. It might sound long, but honestly, it wasn’t boring at all. Vendors kept hopping on at each stop to sell their local specialties from Ratchaburi noodles for just 10 baht, to railway fried rice (black soy), pre-order Thai custard cakes, even Samut Songkhram pomelos. This is the kind of experience you just won’t get on a plane or boat! Once we arrived, we rented a car to explore the city known for having one of the world’s top 23 most beautiful city plans. We visited places like the City Pillar Shrine and the Yala National Museum (entrance only 40 baht!) where you can cool off from the heat and learn some history at the same time. Of course, no trip is complete without food. Yala has unique local dishes you won’t find anywhere else like Man Hua Ro (a local donut), Green Fish, Nasi Dagang, Te O (sweet tea), Khao At (pressed rice), Roti Bakar, Agekoh and so many others with names you might not recognize but flavors that blew me away. Beyond the food and the slow-life vibe, what made this trip so special were the people. Everywhere we went, locals were kind, friendly, smiling, and always ready to help. That’s the real charm of Yala. And for those who may still worry about safety because of the news we often see. I want to say that once you come and see Yala with your own eyes, your perception will change. It’s a province full of charm and warmth. If you get the chance, come visit. I promise it’ll lift your heart just like it did mine.
