Wearing a steel cup without castrating yourself | How safe is your equipment for MMA & Muay Thai?

Q&A with the coach. Our friend TJ, who survived testicular cancer, is now getting into combat sports, and is concerned about all the horror stories he’s heard about mishaps with groin protectors and cups shifting or breaking when accident low blows land during sparring or fighting, causing catastrophic damage to the male reproductive organs. Not wanting to endure the loss of another testicle, TJ wants to know what is the best groin protection and or method of wearing a cup to minimize the potential dangers of crushed gonads when sparring at the gym gets more intense. Shanghai based MMA coach and Kunlun Fight Combat League ringside commentator Ramsey Dewey answers questions from the fans. Short answer: use a Thai steel cup. (The kind generally used for Muay Thai in Thailand) In this video I also show three methods of securing a Thai steel cup, including the traditional method of tying it, a more comfortable alternative method of tying on a steel cup, and a much quicker, easier method using two pairs of tight spandex compression shorts and/or vale tudo shorts. This video features original music by Ramsey Dewey. Disclaimer: please don’t hit yourself in the groin with a hammer. The stunts and actions performed in this video are done by professionals. Make sure you are 100% sure your steel cup is secured correctly before sparring, or competing in full contact fighting of any kind.
