ASMR Teardown - Defeating a Rusted Solid Rancilio Espresso Machine
Aloha Friends and Fans! In today's video, I'm trying something a little different. Just the sights and sounds (aka ASMR) of a Rancilio Teardown and Rebuild. This 25 year old Rancilio Silvia arrived to me with "a little rust". Well, that seller was certainly underplaying the issues with this machine. Whoever had owned it previously had used it for several years with a major leak. I'm frankly shocked. If your machine was leaking, would you just keep using it? Anyway, the frame was completely rusted out. I had always planned to use electrolysis to remove the rust, but I didn't think I would have to use three separate baths to get it all out. After that, I sand blasted and powder coated the frame. My one regret? I wish I had used a cooler color than just "Gloss Black". Something like silver vein would have been cool. Now, not only was the frame rusted but the boiler had 4 seized bolts. But I discovered a perfect technique for getting those out: 48 hour soak with penetrating lube, grinding a slot for the flat head, 30 seconds of propane torch, a strike with a chisel, and hey presto. If you're stuck with seized bolts, follow that order precisely and you'll succeed. Now, the frame was completely revitalized. I also had to rebuild some of the wiring harness. OK, so once everything was clean and scrubbed and powder coated, I rebuilt it just like new! And pulled myself a shot. Anyway, if you like this kind of video from me, let me know. I love providing voice overs, but I'm experimenting a little :) OK, some affiliate links for you: Heat shrink set for various projects: https://amzn.to/4rSgKtH Crimping tool for all types of connectors: https://amzn.to/4csAAqK Thermal Camera used for diagnosis: https://amzn.to/472WAoC Vevor powder coating gun multi voltage: https://amzn.to/4v2i8w0 M5x12mm stainless bolts for the boiler://amzn.to/4bVU0Uk (OR longer ones) M5x14mm stainless bolts for the boiler: https://amzn.to/3R7fdCE Hex bit socket 4mm: https://amzn.to/42tI46K Baratza Sette 270 (my grinder in this video): https://amzn.to/4bxHskC Normcore Needle Distributor: https://amzn.to/4sVmK56 58.5mm shorty tamper with click: https://amzn.to/40N13YX E61 bottomless lay flat from Popspresso: https://amzn.to/4u752Na
