Insane Views & Volcanic Gas, oh my! Backpacking the Tateyama Alpine Route | Favorite Campsite, Japan

Wow, the views and fall colors during this trip to Japan's Northern Alps were so incredible. This is Part One of my adventure along the Tateyama Alpine Route. I started on a night bus from Tokyo, then began my alpine route journey from the Toyama City and onto the Toyama Chiho Railroad, the Tateyama Cable Car, and the Highland Bus. I made a wonderful stop at Midagahara then hopped back on the bus to Murodo (they ask you to make a reservation for the time you will get on again). From Murodo, I made my way to Mikurigaike Onsen, the highest altitude hot spring in Japan. I asked permission to enter with my few tattoos, and they allowed it at that time. Yay! Also, the Mikuri cafe there had some great buttered toast and coffee mm mm. My final destination was the Rachiozawa Campsite. On the way there, I was surprised to find the volcanic gas affecting me a little bit. But all was well! Can't wait to share my traverse from day two in Tateyama.
