This Form of Prayer Looks Christian…But Isn’t

Is centering prayer biblical, or is it a New Age practice being brought into Christian churches? In this video, we look at the difference between biblical meditation and mind-emptying prayer practices like centering prayer, contemplative prayer, breath prayers, and mantras. Jesus did not teach us to empty our minds to find God. He taught us to come to the Father through Him. Many Christians are being told to quiet their thoughts, repeat a sacred word, and enter silence as a way to experience God. But when we compare that practice to Scripture, we need to ask an honest question: is this biblical prayer, or is it something else entirely? The Bible does teach meditation, but biblical meditation fills the mind with God’s Word. It does not empty the mind in order to chase a spiritual experience. In this video, we talk about: What biblical meditation actually is Why “emptying your mind” is not the same as praying The danger of mantras and repetitive phrases What Jesus warned about in Matthew 6:7 Why Romans 12:2 matters for discernment How New Age and occult practices can be repackaged in Christian language How to return to simple, biblical prayer through Jesus Christ If you have practiced centering prayer, contemplative prayer, breath prayers, or mantra-style meditation, this video is not here to shame you. Many sincere Christians have been taught these things while simply wanting to feel close to God. But we must test every spiritual practice by the Word of God. Real intimacy with God does not come from shutting your mind off. It comes from knowing Him through His Word, coming boldly to the throne of grace, and praying to the Father through Jesus Christ.
