No One Knows the Day or Hour? What If That Was the Clue?

What if Jesus’ most famous statement about the timing of His return was not meant to shut down the conversation — but to open the door to something His original audience already understood? When Jesus said, “No one knows the day or the hour,” most Christians assume He meant, “Don’t even think about the timing.” But what if that phrase points us back to the biblical calendar, the new moon, and the Feast of Trumpets? In Leviticus 23, God gives His appointed times — the feasts of the LORD. The spring feasts were fulfilled in remarkable detail through the death, burial, resurrection, and outpouring of the Spirit. But the fall feasts point forward to the final events surrounding the return of the King. The first of the fall feasts is Yom Teruah, the Feast of Trumpets. It falls on the first day of the seventh month — the new moon. That means it was connected to watching, waiting, listening, and recognizing the appointed season. So when Jesus said no one knows the day or hour, was He telling us to ignore prophecy? Or was He giving us a clue? In this teaching, Dr. Douglas Hamp explains how the Feast of Trumpets, the new moon, Paul’s words in 1 Thessalonians 5, and the return of Jesus all fit together. We may not know the exact day or hour — but Scripture says we are not in darkness. Support Dr. Douglas Hamp Ministries through Patreon!   / doughamp
