MK5 GTI Handling Upgrades [Wavetrac LSD, Verkline Arms & Coolerworx Shifter]

Do you want to build the best handling MK5 GTI? This customer dropped off his MK5 GTI ED30 after wanting to improve the handling one step further and to improve it specifically for fast-road and track enjoyment. The customer opted for the Wavetrac Automatic Torque Biasing (ATB) Limited Slip Differential (LSD) which is a HUGE upgrade from the factory open differential. The factory open differential has a huge problem, when one wheel starts to slip, the standard open differential sends all drive torque (or power) to that wheel, the wheel with the least grip. VW mask over this issue with aggressive traction control (TC) intervention and ESP systems which brake the freely spinning wheel, this kills the driving experience and puts a lot of unnecessary load through the brakes. To solve this problem we installed a Wavetrac LSD. This LSD is an ATB differential that automatically and seamlessly sends power to the wheel with the most grip. This improves acceleration and makes the MK5 GTi feel much more stable and confidence-inspiring. At the same time we installed Verkline front wishbones, Verkline rear camber arms and Verkline rear toe arms. All of the Verkline parts feature spherical bushes which eliminate bush deflection, due to the huge movement or deflection in the factory bushes the wheel alignment changes from where it is set under load which although reducing noise, vibration and harshness, for performance driving it kills feedback and gives the feeling of unpredictable handling. Whereas with the Verkline arms, the alignment stays where it is set under load. The added benefits of the front arms are that it adds camber and castor adjustment which is crucial for optimising the tyre contact patch and temperature across the tyre surface and the rear camber and toe arms add more adjustment over the factory items and allow you to bring the camber and toe back into spec where lowering your car makes this difficult. To top off this install this customer also opted for the Coolerworx shifter which as well as looking incredible reduced the forward, back and left to right movement for a much smaller shift pattern which delivers an incredibly satisfying shifting experience.
