Thornbury Walk: Town Centre【4K】

Located in the county of Gloucestershire, and around 10 miles north of Bristol, is the town of Thornbury. At the northern end of the town is St Mary's Church. This dates all the way back to the 12th century, albeit with alterations from the 14th to 16th centuries. The church is Grade I listed. Just next to the church is Thornbury Castle. This was originally conceived and constructed by Edward Stafford, 3rd Duke of Buckingham - said to be the only man to rival King Henry VIII’s wealth and status at the time. In 1510 Henry VIII granted Stafford a licence to build a fortified castle here. However, in 1521 Stafford was tried and executed for alleged treason, and subsequently, Henry VIII took ownership of Thornbury Castle. In 1535 Henry stayed at the castle for 10 days with Anne Boleyn during a tour through the West Country. Today, the castle operates as a luxury hotel. In 1872 a railway station opened in Thornbury. This was the northwestern terminus of a branch line to Yate on the Midland Railway's line between Bristol and Gloucester. The station closed to passengers in 1944, and to goods in 1966.
