The Harz Mountains are a mountain range in central Germany. The highest elevation is the mountain Brocken. The only railroad that operates in the entire area is a 1,000 mm narrow gauge steam railroad called Harzer Schmalspurbahnen (Harz Narrow Gauge Railways). Most of their steam locomotives are BR ("Baureihe" = series) 99 type units with 2-10-2 (or 1E1) wheel arrangement. The railroad runs a relatively large number of scheduled passenger trains. Most popular are the excursion trains to the Brocken on the "Brockenbahn" (Brocken line). Many such trains to/from the summit of this mountain are featured in this video.
