OUR VISIT TO 'CASTELNAUD-LA-CHAPELLE'- A 'MOST BEAUTIFUL VILLAGE OF FRANCE'. DORDOGNE. 'SEPT '23.

It's my birthday, the sun is shining and we are heading out on the bikes to the nearby village of Castelnaud-La-Chapelle. Getting to the village is a trip in itself...through local corn fields, with lovely views of the countryside. When we arrive in the village, it's a fair old hike to get up to the top, but the views of the chateau and the surrounding valley make it worthwhile. The houses of the village are in beautiful perigordine style with stone walls, large deeply-sloping roofs or terracotta tile and wooden shutters. At the top of the village is the imposing Chateau de Castelnaud, a magnificent castle and also a very impressive museum of war. The castle has full scale replicas of some of the war machines and trebuchets. Quite impressive on the battlements. A lovely day out for my birthday! Well worth the effort!! Phew!!
