Mayor Oh Se-hoon is facing a crisis of losing his mayoral status after being sentenced to a fine of 10 million won, as this is the first trial. Did you anticipate this? [Kim Han-kyu] Because the court sentenced former President Yoon Suk-yeol to a guilty verdict and ordered the court-ordered detention of Mr. Myeong Tae-gyun in the previous trial, I thought there was a high possibility of a guilty verdict since this case has a similar structure. In particular, regarding Mr. Kim Han-jeong, who is known as the guardian—or rather, the supporter—and who is accused of actually paying for the opinion polls on behalf of others, the sentence for Mr. Kang Cheol-won—an aide to Oh Se-hoon—was merely a fine of 5 million won. A fine of 5 million won is, in fact, an ambiguous amount to be recognized as a criminal offense, especially under the Political Funds Act. In that regard, there has been absolutely no direct evidence emerging that Mayor Oh Se-hoon directly instructed Mr. Myeong Tae-gyun to effectively pay the costs of the public opinion polls on behalf of Mr. Kim Han-jeong, or that he participated in or was implicated in such an act. Consequently, there are no specific circumstances regarding the exact amount, timing, nature of the payment, or whether the funds were received or acknowledged. Nevertheless, because there are circumstances between his close aide, Mr. Kang Cheol-won, and his guardian, Mr. Kim Han-jeong, the logic has been structured to argue that Mayor Oh must ultimately hold Myeong Tae-gyun responsible for the allegations of paying for the pre-publication polls on his behalf. However, given the circumstances, I believe that even though Mayor Oh loses his position if the amount exceeds 1 million won under the Political Funds Act, if he can concretely prove the independence of the transaction between the specific sponsor, Myeong Tae-gyun, and demonstrate that the poll results were not a quid pro quo or political funding, the ruling from the first trial is sufficient to allow him to retain his position in the appeal.
