English Suite No. 4 in F major, BWV 809: 1. Prelude

The prelude contains many references to other works; for instance, the subject is similar to that of Sinfonia No. 1 in C major, the beginning of the B section and the descending thirds in b.45ff remind us of the first movement of Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 in D major, and the ascending sequence in b.28ff is the subject of the Prelude in B-flat minor from WTC Book 1. All these different elements are combined masterfully into a piece of pure joy. ~~~~~~~~~~ English Suite No. 4 in F major, BWV 809 by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) 1.
