Deeper Connection in Relationships Starts with Connection to Yourself - Day 4
Day 4 of "5 Morning of Embodied Presence" Feeling more deeply understood and connected with others begins with the relationship we have with ourselves. Before I started cultivating this in my own inner life, I didn’t fully understand why it mattered. But through applying it personally, and seeing its impact with clients, I’ve come to know how true it is. The more we are able to notice our own internal dilemmas, struggles, and resistance — and meet them with compassion and care — the more able we become to offer that same presence to others. As this happens, our defence patterns can begin to soften. And often, it is these defence patterns that create strain in our relationships, rather than our more grounded, solid self. When we begin to share the parts of ourselves that live underneath those defences, we bring into the light something we have been protecting. These may be parts of us that we learned earlier in life were not safe, welcome, or “a good idea” to show. But as we allow more of our genuine self to be present in relationship with others, we can begin to discover that we no longer need to hide those parts away. Connection deepens naturally, because we are connecting with more of ourselves — and allowing others to meet us more fully, too. In this video, Melanie explores the human development pathways that are affected when we practice this kind of inner attunement, and how it impacts the nervous system.
