When performed with control and proper intent, this can be very safe and effective training for adding volume to your quad training. The key points to maintaining control within this movement: (0:20) How To Set Up For Leg Extension Step 1: Lining yourself up with the pivot point of the machine Step 2: Pulling yourself down into the seat to help stabilize your pelvis Step 3: Not flinging the weight out of the bottom — this is where many issues can start to arise with the knee and cause undue stress to that joint. The knee has little stability in this part of the movement. So, it may not be the exercise here causing your knee pain as much as your execution. Step 4: Control the eccentric part of each rep — maintain control and get the most out of the exercise.
