Whiteface Monster?! Kayaking the Ottawa River at Highwater . . . Level 26 Main Channel
The Ottawa River has been in flood watch. Whitewater kayaking paradise!! The water is extremely high . . . reading 26 on the Owl Rafting Gauge. Kayaking the main channel at level 26 is extremely highwater . . . and a personal high for me. The main channel is absolutely huge. Whiteface Monster on Coliseum Rapid is showing its teeth and giving free hugs to any paddler that is brave enough to get in there!! The normal summer levels are about -2 . . . that is 28 feet lower than where it is today. The rafting companies stop running the main channel at around level 10 . . . 16 feet lower than it is now. The water is too high for Gladiator Wave . . . if the level drops perhaps it will come in . . . I have no desire to get anywhere near that wave (because I would get my a$$ handed to me) . . . but would love to see some of the folks carve it up!!!
