I Was SO WRONG About Swedish Midsommar #sweden

Before experiencing Midsommar in Sweden, I thought I knew what to expect. Like many people outside Scandinavia, I had heard stories that made Sweden’s biggest summer celebration sound like one giant party… something closer to spring break or the Fourth of July in the States. But after spending the weekend celebrating Midsommar in the Swedish countryside, I realized I had completely misunderstood what makes this tradition so special. What struck me most wasn’t the dancing, the food, or even the gathering itself. It was the overwhelming sense of peace. For the first time in a long time, I experienced what it feels like to participate in a celebration that feels deeply connected to nature, community, presence, and the rhythms of the natural world. As an American living in Sweden, I couldn’t help but compare it to many holidays back home, where celebrations often revolve around consumption, obligation, overstimulation, and leaving more exhausted than restored. This experience made me reflect on something much bigger- have we forgotten how to celebrate in ways that actually nourish us? This video follows my first Midsommar in Sweden and the unexpected lesson it taught me about peace, connection, happiness, and what truly matters.
