The JS Ikazuchi (DD-107) serves as the seventh unit of the Murasame-class destroyers currently commissioned by the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF). The vessel’s name, "Ikazuchi," derives from the archaic term for "thunder"—distinct from the flash of lightning, it signifies the resounding roar of the storm itself. As the fourth iteration of the name in Japanese naval history, this vessel carries forward a lineage established by the Ikazuchi-class destroyer "Ikazuchi" and the Fubuki-class destroyer "Ikazuchi" of the former Imperial Japanese Navy, as well as the Ikazuchi-class destroyer "Ikazuchi" of the JMSDF.
