Birding the Costa Rican Páramo on Cerro de la Muerte
Watch this video if you're interested in some of Costa Rica's most special birds. Check out our collection of beautiful bird shirts at https://jabiru-clothing.com The Páramo is the montane ecosystem in the neotropics nestled between the continuous forest line and the permanent snow line. In Costa Rica and western Panama, this habitat is found on only 32km² around the highest peaks of the Talamanca range. Cerro de la Muerte is probably the most accessible area to experience this ecosystem. But it wasn't always like this. Grimly named, this mountain pass marked a crucial point in a multi-day journey on foot or horsebacks that farmers embarked on to sell their goods at markets in the Central Valley. Many ill-prepared hikers didn't make it through the cold and the rain. Today, Cerro de la Muerte is oftentimes referred to as Cerro Buenavista and it marks the highest point of the Panamerican Highway. And the wildlife up there is unique. Many of the plant, insect, and bird species are endemic to the Talamanca range. The Volcano Hummingbird, the Large-footed Finch, the Volcano Junco, just to name a few. In today's video we're exploring the fascinating bird life. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SUBSCRIBE AND LEAVE A LIKE ❤️ 🙏 Thanks for stopping by and watching!
