A trip to the Midland Railway Centre with Class 31 31108 and Peak 44004 'Great Gable' in action!

A long overdue visit to the Midland Railway Centre today, with time spent exploring the site with various locomotives on display. Following their appearance at the Keighley & Worth Valley Diesel Gala last weekend    • Keighley & Worth Valley Diesel Gala | 3721...   31210 and 31108 were in action here this weekend, but sadly 31210 developed a small fault so 31108 went it alone today for the 31s, with Class 44 Peak 44004 ‘Great Gable’, working trains between Butterley, Swanwick, Riddings and down over the reservoir to Hammersmith. We had a ride on the Golden Valley Light Railway 2ft narrow gauge line which runs from the main site at Swanwick up to the canal tunnels at Newlands Inn on the Simplex 40SD 529, and explored West Shed, with a grand display of LMS heritage, 46203 ‘Princess Margaret Rose’ on display and a chance to see progress on the overhaul of LMS 7P 6233 ‘Duchess of Sutherland’. 50049 ‘Defiance’ which brought the pair of 31s from Keighley to the Midland Railway Centre, was also at Swanwick undergoing maintenance. After we left it unexpectedly dropped onto a late afternoon service for a test run after repairs to a small water leak, ahead of moving back to Kidderminster tomorrow, so alot happening and it was great to get back here and explore the railway in depth! | 28.06.2026 I hope you enjoy this video and thank you for watching!
